surviving not thriving in a heat wave
You may have heard that a heat wave is currently burning its way through California leaving the millions of us without central AC cursing our very existence. Now this is nothing compared to the horror show in Jackson, Mississippi but climate collapse takes many forms. So many hot days in a row makes everyone in LA on edge. No one sleeps and the amount of car horns you hear rises by 10,000%. The air gets thick with pollution and smoke from the inevitable brush fires. All our plants cry out for mercy but none arrives. We have a long shoot schedule ahead next week as we prep for our new project which means hours in the kitchen baking, searing, and sweating. Thank god for testing these drink recipes for y’all otherwise both of us would be in a puddle on the floor right now.
We love summer pies- see the general news this week for a delicious example- but some days are truly too fucking hot to bake. Enter our Peach Pie Smoothie. It’s loaded with belly-filling fiber, protein, and all the bells and whistles of peach pie without the oven, or extra calories. We used frozen peaches because the ones at the market weren’t looking good but you can use fresh peaches if you want, just throw in some ice to cool it down. Top it with more rolled oats or your favorite granola and you have a sweet treat, or delicious breakfast, worthy of sharing on social.
Peach Pie Smoothies
Makes enough for 2 big glasses
2 cups vanilla almond milk or your favorite nondairy milk
1 ½ cups frozen peach slices
½ cup rolled oats
¼ cup almond butter
1 tablespoon maple syrup, optional based on the sweetness of your peaches
Dash of cinnamon
Throw everything is your blender and let it run until it looks smooth. Add a scoop of your favorite vanilla protein powder if that’s your thing. Serve with an extra dash of cinnamon on top.
