We’ve finally arrived at the last recipe in our 3-part recipe quest for new favorite Fall foods. To recap, we started with our Fall Spiced Maple Syrup then moved on to the slightly complicated but oh so yummy Fallah Bread. But now we’ve reached the summit: Cinnamon Swirl Challah French Toast, where we combine all the recipes for the ultimate, rainy morning, all-day-pjs kinda brunch.
The world seems tougher than usual right now , but these kinds of meals are the sort of attainable luxuries that will help lighten the load on all our backs, even for just a moment. Whip this up for someone in your life who could use a little extra kindness or a moment of reprieve. Or print this newsletter out and leave it conspicuously on the table for someone WHO NEEDS TO TAKE A FUCKING HINT ONCE AND AWHILE but doesn’t know where to start when it comes to spoiling a loved one with effort. Not money, not jewelry, just effort toward a delicious, pressure-free morning. Be better, start with brunch.
Cinnamon Swirl Challah French Toast
Serves 4, about 8 slices of French toast
Half loaf of Fallah Bread or your favorite enriched loaf of bread like potato bread, brioche, or store-bought challah
Batter:
2 tablespoons all purpose flour
3 tablespoons ground chia or flax seeds
2 cups vanilla non-dairy creamer like almond or whatever you like
2 tablespoons nutritional yeast l
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
¼ teaspoon cinnamon for each slice of bread, divided
Cut the bread into slices about an inch thick. If the bread is super soft, like on the day it’s made, place these slices in the oven at 200 degrees F for 10 minutes to dry them out a little.
In a pie pan or similar sized shallow dish, mix together the ground chia seeds and flour. Then whisk the creamer right into the chia flour mix. Go slowly so that shit doesn't get all lumpy and gross. Now let that sit for 5 minutes so that it can kinda thicken up.
After the 5 minutes are up, slowly add the nutritional yeast and nutmeg then stir. Warm your griddle over a medium heat and spray a little oil on it so these bitches don’t stick. Now sprinkle the first ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon into the creamer mixture and swirl it on the surface of the creamer with a toothpick or butter knife.
Place the slice of bread right down onto it so it transfers on the slice without getting too mixed up in the batter. Soak your bread slices into the batter for a couple seconds on each side and then throw em right on the griddle. Cook for about 2 minutes each side, or until they look golden and tasty. You know what the fuck French toast is supposed to look like. Keep adding a ¼ of cinnamon and swirling before adding a new loaf to the batter. Keep going until you run out of batter or toast.
Serve with some Fall Spiced Maple Syrup  and powdered sugar if you're fancy.Â
