Hey y’all. So, normally you get this silly little food newsletter from us full of hot takes and fresh memes. We do our best to be a funny but informative distraction from the rotation of stupid and scary news cycles.
This week we’re not doing that. Even as we prep for a long holiday weekend, we can’t just move forward and pretend like things aren’t fucked up.
The news out of Texas earlier this week is heartbreaking and infuriating. It’s a shameful thing to grow numb to. We’re so tired of watching Americans, especially children, get killed because of gun violence. Don’t worry we’re not here to lecture anyone, even though this is an uniquely American problem and most Americans support background checks.
Instead, this weekend we encourage anyone reading this to take a moment and enjoy a meal with someone. A person you love, a person you’re getting to know, hell, even if it’s just your dog. Life is short and messy. Take time to be present with the people that are important to you. Or maybe just buy a burrito for that person you see on the corner every day. Bake some cookies for a neighbor. Everyone, everywhere is struggling. We’re all being bombarded with grief, burnout, and an opaque feeling of despair at every turn. We need to build a better tomorrow so this weekend, let’s start close to home. A full belly and a nice conversation can do a lot for the soul. And we’re going to need good people to fix what has been broken.
We’ll be back to our regularly scheduled bullshit next week. Promise. Until then we hope you find a little joy.
Matt and Michelle
