This is the weirdest time of year. Schools are back in session all over the country and the days remain oppressively hot. You’re tired. We’re tired. The whole fucking world is tired. So for the next few weeks we’re sending out some end of summer sips that involve little-to-no prep. We want you to relax as much as your schedule allows and these beverages are a shortcut to a mental vacation. So before Halloween treats and Thanksgiving pies start knocking down our doors, let’s enjoy the long summer twilight, a good drink, and some decent company.Â
Speaking of company, let’s be friends. If you missed last week’s announcement or you’re new here, we just rolled out a new benefit for all you wonderful, paying supporters. If you want some real behind the scenes shit, leave your Instagram handle in the comments below or email it to us, and we’ll put you on our ✨Close Friends✨ list on Instagram. That’ll give you access to tons of special content that goes into trying to run a food brand. It’s less curated than our typical feed and will bring us just a lil closer together. You can DM us your cooking questions and they won’t end up in an anonymous inbox graveyard because you’ll be in the inner circle. Trust us, it’s gonna be fun.
Now back to our new favorite simple summer drink that doubles as a great margarita mix without all the high fructose syrup and artificial coloring because you deserve a helluva lot better than that.
Sunset Limeade
Makes about 40 ounces, 5 drinks
4 cups water
1 cup lime juice*
¼ cup orange juice
¼-⅓ cup agave
1 teaspoon citric acid, optional
Salt to taste
In a big ass jar with a lid or pitcher, mix all the ingredients together then taste. Add more agave or whatever you think it needs. This recipe is meant to serve over ice so if you're planning on just drinking it chilled, you might want to add a little more water.
To make this the base for an excellent margarita, add a shot of tequila to your glass. Or 3. We don’t know what kind of week you’ve had and we’re not fucking judging.
If you want to make this spicy, add 1 sliced jalapeno to your jar with some ice, throw on the lid, and shake that shit up. Strain and serve over fresh ice.
*1 lime is about 2 tablespoons of juice so this is about 8 limes. Handy little measurement trick huh? You’re fucking welcome.
Here is where we’d cheers you but this is an email so ya know… use your imagination. Keep cool and we’ll see y’all next weekend with a new end of summer sip.Â
