I'd highly recommend it next time you're there. We've hosted many groups there & even the meat eaters enjoy it thoroughly!

Surprised you didn’t list Cafe Gratitude on your San Diego list. Always had nothing but great experiences there! ~ Josh M

I have never eaten at their outpost in San Diego. Only the original spot in SF and here in LA!

Cafe Gratitude has closed its doors, sadly. I was hoping they would turn it into a Gracias Madres !

Excited to try some of these places out even though I’ve been in SD for more than 10 years!

Thank you for this. Despite being an Angelena, I have never spent time in SD. Now I have some ideas of spots to explore.

Great column. Spent many fun years in San Diego living in North Park area. Your column brought back lots of delicious menus, particularly La Coccina and Tribute Pizza which were within walking distance. Not vegan, but serving amazing mushroom tacos, would add City Tacos on University Avenue also in North Park to your list. Otherwise you nailed all our favorites too

I clearly didn’t notice that. What a sad thing to hear. 😔

this is the saddest way to find out a favorite spot has closed, short of showing up to eat and seeing a sign on the door 😢

As a native Californian, I love giving people recs on where to visit when they’re here. It’s so beautiful if you can get over the traffic. Flying is always the pits though.
