Hi Michelle! Always fun reading the weekly Broiler Room epistle. To reply as requested, this year I: enjoyed cooking from your newest book; finally did that trauma therapy after losing both parents; and finally started getting the old body back in shape after a number of false starts. Eating well and feeling better go hand in hand. Who coulda guessed? Thanks again for the newsletter, it keeps eating well in the forefront of my brain.
This year, I found a great friend, starting making cooking videos in TikTok, stopped eating out as much, and decided I wasn’t going to do anything that didn’t bring me joy. (Except for the necessities of course.)
Oh, and I also reached out to my favorite cookbook author/chef and actually got a response (which I wasn’t expecting) and was beyond excited when she also gifted me with her new book! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for all of the awesome content over the years. I feel like I am a much better home cook because I've used BM books and the site and now substack so much over the years. Something I'm proud of this year is consistently exercising for my mental health and for a goal I'd like to reach next year. I've also learned a lot of patience because I've fractured my finger and that shit takes forever to heal!
Ughh there’s nothing more humbling than a little injury that takes forever to heal. Working out consistently with something like that is a huge accomplishment!
Love the pep talk! I’ve been giving a similar one to everyone around me lately too. And I’m ALL FOR the year of the PAPUSA! It’s a top 3 food for me and I try and tell everyone about them whenever I can slip it into a conversation lol. Just had some with some girlfriends this week at a local El Salvadorian place I’ve introduced them too and now is our favourite place to meet. ❤️🫓
Hi all - I know. It's holiday time and you might be rightfully thinking something like "Seriously? You don't have anything better to do than to ask BSF trivia like this?" But I'm cooking my way through HaH (hah!) and I've gotta know: Is it OK to sub arrowroot (which seems to be in no recipes) for the cornstarch (which seems to be in many). If yes, 1:1 or...? Thanks!
It's always a treat reading all the posts. This year: 1. I met two of my favorite cookbook authors - you and Matt! Seeing and hearing the people that make the recipes I cook, that we eat, was an incredible treat for me! 2. I played a piano solo in front of 1000 people for a local Christmas concert. It was frightening and wonderful. 3. I found my love of cooking again, mostly due to your last book. It made me take a step out, and it has ignited my realization that eating plants makes me feel so much better. But I do crave a good Wisconsin brat...4. I've never had a Pupusa, so that will need to change. But I did have Falafel Waffles and they were delicious.
Thanks for all the work you and Matt do to bring us great recipes, reads, ideas and things to consider. I hope you have relaxing and rejuvenating holiday time, and we'll ya on the flip side of 2024!

Trauma therapy and moving your body after a long break? You’re doing all the hard stuff. Keep it up ❤️

Awwww, and all your videos are awesome !!
I’ve never had a pupusa, so I guess my goal of 2024 will be to change that.
The thing I’m most proud of this year? Re-growing my liver after having 75% of it removed in the Spring!
You’re basically a superhero, The Regenerator! And yes, pupusas forever and ever ❤️
Great Clemmie content.
she’s an icon and she knows it

Right? It's always the injuries that happen in the dumbest ways that make you realize you still ain't shit.
my ankles keep me HUMBLE
Enjoy the holidays! May they not suck! Cooking is my coping as well, but I’m trying to branch out.
Love branching out. I’m feeling weirdly drawn to embroidery lately so who knows what’s up in 2024
Beautiful.
Thanks for sharing so much of yourselves with us. I’ve enjoyed this Substack of yours very much, and I wish you a happy holiday season!

Happy Holidays! I never knew what a pupusa was until the recipe this year. I’m in Phoenix and now I notice them all over! To the Year of the Pupusa!
They’re amazing and curtido?! One of my true love foods right there
Happy holidays and thanks for all you give us during the year—the laughs, the knowledge, and the great food! Love to you and Matt and your loves!
