Thanks Matt for the beautiful memories . That was such a special time at the farm . Your Granddad loved every minute with you as did I . You make my heart joyful . Grandma Mary
Good for you trying it ( the diet ) and continuing on your journey.
Your title "Eat Like You Give a F" - was the reason I shared your cookbooks with my SON
I thought you spoke to the Male generation so well and to the point. (Wink wink nudge nudge).
I just forwarded your story to my son - who loves your original cookbook AND uses it all the time.
Thank you. Your books made eating well - a party and who doesn't like a party.
He does all the cooking - so his wife is healthy by default.❤️
My son has just been tested ( as has my daughter) for all types of gut issues ( mostly gluten) but so much more.
I was lucky enough to attend a workshop called Learning Lunches by Dr. Williams ( a cardiologist - who prescribed them to his patients.). Anyone could sign up though and my Health and Phys Ed teaching background propelled me forward) .
I live in a small Town and the Veggie trolls were livid that these lunches were paid for under our Canadian Medical Plan.
They didn't mind me getting a prescription that was mega money but FREE food lessons - NO way. Arghhhh ! the ignorance is ..…. ????
We found out from Dr. Williams that the 7 or so years of Doctor training only includes something like 48 hours of info on diet.
Dr. Williams basically trained himself after connecting with Plant Based Doctors in the States.
I started my journey thanks to your and Michelle's cookbooks.
I have to lead by your example as there are so many haters out there ..... as you must know.
Thank you again.
You write so well - I hope you are writing your own memoir.

Thank you for sharing your story, Matt. Got me all teary. 🥹 I love your grandparents! I’m so grateful for all your and Michelle’s work. I’d been vegetarian on and off for almost 20 years when Thug Kitchen hit the scene...it had never occurred to me I could be vegan! And because swearing makes me giggle and the recipes are fantastic, I’m still giving it a go. I have all the TK cookbooks AND Bad Manners cookbooks. (Long story behind that, I’m not stupid with money, TK books are in storage across the country accidentally.) Thanks for making it fun and changing SO MANY LIVES, human and animal. ❤️

Oh yeah some awful days but they’re good ones as well. Construction is tough too. I feel for the employees doing that work in 90 plus weather 🫡 back at ya
Thank you for sharing this, Matt ❤️ my husband is from Texas. I shared this with him because I know it will pull on his heart strings as he has a similar story.
Matt, I am so glad you had that time with Grandma and Papa. I love you and proud of you. I too am meat and potato raised Texas that is a convert and what is even better, so is Uncle Mark!
Great story Matt. Makes me think of my own journey working on the railroad for 36 years and developing really bad acid reflux from the greasy slop we were fed and those sugar laden juice boxes ( heartburn in a box) is what we called them. Amazing the effect simple dietary changes make.
This was such a beautiful story! Thanks for sharing.
I grew up working on my aunt and uncle’s farm as a kid and we couldn’t name the cows either. I learned so much from them it’s also a big reason I’m vegan now.
Stop Naming the Animals

Grateful for your story. My grandparents had a small dairy farm in Connecticut. So many of your memories resonated with me.
Thug Kitchen was my first vegan cookbook, having been vegetarian for 25 years...your books and recipes helped me never look back 🙏🏽

Loved the picture of you with Grandma Mary.
Awesome.

Love this. My husband is a native Texan and now a vegan. On our last trip back we were so happy to see all of the vegan restaurants in Austin.

The farm life you had with your grandparents damn near brought me too tears. Great read Matt!
They do teach health in school BUT Doctor /nursing training is behind the times. The "colonial system" and we all remember how long that has existed.
Poor Doctors / nurses are still figuring it out on our behalf.
Like creosote from railway ties ugh 😑
Lol and you can smell that tar miles away lol

Love it and all the posts. Most people *still* have no idea where their food comes from or how to change old habits.
Thanks for sharing this story! My serious acid reflux cleared up when I stopped eating gluten.
