Completely agree. Food in LA for us plantivores is vastly superior. Was last in NYC in 2018 and the only vegan pizza (pricey) I would recommend has since opened in Venice (Zero Zero). Any recent recs for Portland OR?

I haven't been to Portland OR since 2014 but everything I had then was amazing. Sighhh I need to get out more

NYC is still on my to-visit list, so many thanks for these do-and-do-nots! Also: I live just up the road from Wolfville, Nova Scotia. So many yummy places to eat...

Agreed Thugs,

Being a long time vegetarian from the East coast I always thought NYC as the center of the food universe as far as Veg food. When I moved West it made me realize there is soooo much more out there!

That being said, finally seeing the increase in great Veg food everywhere is inspiring!

Old thread, I know, but I’m just catching up to it, with this recommendation: The restaurants under the Overthrow Hospitality umbrella, all vegan, all in the East Village. Cadence is the one that’s been getting the most buzz, but I’m crazy about each of them. Eterea (Mexican) and Soda Club (pasta and natural wines) are probably my faves. Short menus that don’t change very often is my one caveat. Also pricey in that night-out sort of way, but worth it. We’re getting better over here in NYC, I swear!

Last week, I took my CA teenage daughter to New York City for the first time, armed with your post on vegan food. We decided to go to Little Myanmar and had an amazing meal. My first time eating Burmese food and this little hole in the wall was delicious! Thanks so much for the recommendation!

I'm surprised you didn't go to Dirt Candy. Why not?

I've never been. The only people who recommend it me are always omnivores while my veg friends have told me to skip it. I'll put it on my list for next time if you think it's worth it.

Out of curiosity and a desire to support our local spots, which vegan place in Richmond?

When I lived out there I loved Ipanema Cafe. Their Caesar with grilled tofu was perfection.

Oh! I love Ipanema. It's so cozy, too. Anyway, thank you!

Why didn’t you do Modern Love?

I love Isa’s books but I’ve been once to Modern Love and it was just ok. No shade, just not for me.

Awww that makes me sad. I love her books too and have wanted try ML forever. I do pick and choose among her recipes— canNOT tolerate seitan aka SATAN 😝 but she (and you) kind of made vegan seem possible!

If you love her books, then you should go at least once. It's a beautiful space and she's absolutely a talent worth supporting. I made my pilgrimage and felt that was enough, you know?
